i love to cook and want to try out some different recipesWhat are some good biscuit recipes?
: Biscuits


鈥?3 cups all-purpose flour


鈥?2 tablespoons sugar


鈥?2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder


鈥?1/2 teaspoon baking soda


鈥?1/2 teaspoon salt


鈥?1/2 cup vegetable shortening


鈥?1 cups buttermilk


鈥?1/4 cup melted unsalted butter





Directions


Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.


In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut in the shortening with a fork until it looks like cornmeal. Add the milk, a little at a time, stirring constantly until well mixed.


Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead lightly two or three times. Roll out the dough with a floured rolling pin to 12-inch thickness. Cut with a 2-inch cutter.


Place the biscuits in a greased iron skillet. Gently press down top of biscuits. Brush the biscuits with half the melted butter. Bake for 14 minutes or until golden brown. Brush the hot biscuits with the remaining butter.What are some good biscuit recipes?
Biscuits





2 c flour


4 t baking powder


1/2 t soda


1 t salt


1 t sugar


4 T shortening


1 c buttermilk





Mix dry ingredients with shortening with a pastry blender or a fork. Add buttermilk. Sprinkle flour on wax paper or pastry board and knead. Pat out to 3/4 inch thick, cut in round circle with biscuit cutter. Melt 2 tablespoons of shortening in 12x12 inch pan. Bake until brown at 450 degrees.
Quick Biscuits





Ingredients:


2 cups self-rising flour


1 cup heavy whipping cream


Directions:


In a large bowl, combine the flour and cream. Turn out onto a floured surface; knead for 5 minutes or until no longer sticky. On a floured surface, roll dough to a 1/2-in. thickness. Cut into 3-in. biscuits. Place on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 450掳 for 8 to 10 minutes. Yield: 9 biscuits. Editor's Note: If you don't have self-rising flour, add 1 tablespoon baking powder and 1 teaspoon salt to 2 cups all-purpose flour.

Ranch Biscuits





Ingredients:


2 cups biscuit/baking mix


4 teaspoons dry ranch salad dressing mix


2/3 cup milk


2 tablespoons butter, melted


1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes


1/8 teaspoon garlic powder





In a large bowl, stir the biscuit mix, salad dressing mix and milk until combined. Drop 2 in. apart onto a greased baking sheet.


Bake at 425掳 for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown. In a small bowl, combine the butter, parsley and garlic power; brush over warm biscuits. Yield: 9 biscuits.

Buttermilk Biscuits





Ingredients:


2 cups all-purpose flour


1 tablespoon sugar


1 teaspoon baking powder


1/2 teaspoon salt


1/2 teaspoon baking soda


1/4 cup cold shortening


3/4 cup buttermilk





In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add buttermilk; stir just until the dough clings together.


Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead gently, about 10-12 times. Roll to 1/2-in. thickness; cut with a floured 2-in. round biscuit cutter. Place 1 in. apart on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 450掳 for 11-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve warm. Yield: about 1-1/2 dozen.

Ingredients:


2 cups all-purpose flour


1 cup cornmeal


2 tablespoons sugar


4-1/2 teaspoons baking powder


3/4 teaspoon cream of tartar


1/2 teaspoon salt


3/4 cup cold butter


1 egg, lightly beaten


1 cup milk





In a bowl, combine flour cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Combine egg and milk; stir into flour mixture just until moistened. Let stand 5 minutes.


Turn onto a floured surface; knead for about 1 minute. Pat or roll out to 3/4-in, thickness; cut with a 3-in. biscuit cutter. Place on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 450掳 for 10-12 minutes. Yield: 1 dozen.
